Let’s Talk About: When Feelings Feel Overwhelming

You don’t have to fix everything at once.
Sometimes the goal is simply getting through the next moment.

Name What You’re Feeling

When emotions are intense, your brain can struggle to make sense of them.

“I feel anxious.”
“I feel hurt.”
“I feel overwhelmed.”

Naming emotions can help reduce their intensity and increase your sense of control.

Focus on the Next Right Step

When you’re overwhelmed, avoid asking:

“How do I solve everything?”

Instead ask:

“What’s the next small thing I can do?”

Drink water.
Take a short walk.
Reply to one email.
Text a trusted friend.

Small actions create momentum.

Feelings Are Information, Not Instructions

Just because you feel something doesn’t mean you have to act on it.

You can feel angry without lashing out.
You can feel anxious without avoiding.
You can feel sad without giving up.

Pause. Notice. Choose your response intentionally.

You Don’t Have to Carry It Alone

Overwhelming emotions are part of being human.

Reach out to someone you trust.
Practice self-compassion.
Consider talking with a mental health professional.

Healing doesn’t happen all at once—it happens one step at a time.
